Senador Modestino Gonçalves
A diverse range of waterfalls and natural features, such as the Mata dos Ausentes

In 1744 the bandeirante Antônio Magalhães de Barros discovered both the Araçuaí River and the site where the village of Mêrces de Aracuaí was founded. This village would later become the city of Senador Modestino Gonçalves; a city with joyful, welcoming people, and a diverse range of waterfalls and natural features, such as the Mata dos Ausentes (Forest). The Aracuaí bathing resort, the Barbada Bridge and the Rosário Chapel are some of the other attractions Senador Modestino Gonçalves has to offer visitors.
